FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." Anon

If you are wanting to find a new home for your Jack Russell Terrier or are looking to adopt a Jack Russell Terrier into your family or home, these are some frequently asked questions;

Did you get your dog from a Jack Russell Terrier Club of South Africa breeder? If so, have you contacted the breeder?

Jack Russell Terrier Club of South Africa  breeders will either take their dog back or assist you in re-homing your dog. It is usually a faster avenue than the rescue program. Please do this before contacting the rescue representative.

How long does it take for you to find a new home for my dog?

Please remember that it has to be a suitable home for the terrier. There is therefore no definitive answer. Times range from less than a week to several months.  We know that you want the best home for your terrier and this can take time.

How long does it take for me to adopt a terrier?

The rescue program does not always have terriers available. You should also be aware that Jack Russell Terriers are not suitable for everyone and that there is a screening process to go through to determine if this is the right choice for you and the dog. Please contact the rescue representative who will be pleased to assist you.

Who should I contact/email about surrendering my terrier to OR getting a terrier from, the rescue program program?

Please e-mail your contact details to Jonathan on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please also supply at least 2 high quality images of the terrier from the front and side for advertising purposes. Pictures assist in finding new homes a great deal.

What are your requirements for my dog to come into your rescue program?

As a general rule, your terrier must be spayed or neutered, up to date on its shots and current and have no major health defects. The best course of action is to contact the rescue representative.

I am moving in .........( very short notice period) and I can't take my dog, can the rescue program help?

We are a rescue adoption program and do not have a boarding facility and very limited foster care available. Please contact the rescue representative to discuss possible options but as a general rule, you will need to keep your dog until a suitable home is found. We are unable to assist you at extremely short notice.

Is there a fee to put my dog into your program? Is there an adoption fee?

Yes, you should be prepared to pay a surrender fee of R50.00. This fee goes towards the administration costs of the rescue program.

If you are adopting, an adoption fee of R200 will apply to successful applications, also going towards rescue fund administration.
